Heard from who? I've heard of people still doing things for Halloween. I don't think there is a central authority who decides whether or not Halloween is canceled. I've heard of people planning to leave candy on a bench at the end of their driveway for kids to pick up while trick-or-treating.

Well because up here in Canada, COVID-19 is still rampant at the moment. Even Thanksgiving was limited to immediate family only no extras were allowed to be invited.

Same in the US. I'm sure many people will try to be careful and safe this Halloween. I haven't heard it's canceled, just recommendations on being safer (similar to family gatherings for Thanksgiving there, etc.).

I saw someone post that they're going to make bags of candy that kids can take. I guess it's an honor system where kids should just take one bag. Also, he said he'd be sitting at his front door, so I'd assume he'd be watching.

Fifty years ago, when we lived in Florida...my Dad would send my
brother and I out for candy in the neighborhood. This was LONG BEFORE
you had to worry about these idiots tampering with the candy, lacing
them with toxic drugs, razor blades, etc.

We'd canvas the neighboorhood, and bring home bags full of candy.
He would sort through what we brought home, and set aside what he
wanted to himself. What he didn't want, he gave to our Mom to give
out to the rest of the kids...and send us back out to get more candy.

Actually, that could depend on where in the world you're talking about. Right now, the number of visitors allowed in a private house here is very limited (5 I think - haven't really taken much notice, because we don't have many visitors). Down in Melbourne the restrictions are even more severe. What that means for Halloween is a little uncertain though, because there is a possibility of some change in restrictions between now and Halloween. However, there is more scope for small outdoor gatherings.

Interestingly when asked about this, our state Premier didn't know what Halloween was, which I was a bit surprised at, because most people in Australia know what Halloween is, even if they don't observe it.

I do foresee some easing of restrictions - partly because it's needed on economic and mental health concerns, and partly because the contact tracing systems are now finally getting to the level they can rapidly respond to and contain outbreaks, even while a significant number of people are moving around, going about their daily business.

Yep, OK, I hadn't taken that aspect into account. Where I am
(southeastern USA), there aren't many restrictions, and I can
promise you there will be (large) Halloween parties going on. Not
that I'll be attending any, as I quit caring about Halloween at
    about the age of 12.

We'll know more on Sunday, when the state government announces the next easing of restrictions, but I'm sure there will be no large scale parties. And yeah I don't get too excited about Halloween either.

That's good news. Be careful out there.

Yeah, let's hope for a steady progress towards "COVID normal". Good news is a couple of outbreaks don't seem to have spread further. Tomorrow's report will be key, as it will contain the results of more regional tests (which so far haven't shown any positives out of approximately 40% of the tests).

They're now checking not only contacts of cases, but contacts of contacts as wel, and getting them to self isolate and test as well.

My parents were anti-candy so they would always hand out individually wrapped (factory sealed) bags of Planters peanuts that they bought from Price Club. Imagine handing out peanuts to kids today.... you'd have to include an EpiPen.
