• What ARE Doorgames?

From Alys W@1:103/705 to All on Monday, March 03, 2025 20:06:37
Hello, I just wanted to ask what doorgames even are. I'm quite confused on this because the name tells me nothing about what it could be, so please someone tell me! Thanks.

Doorgames are games you can play on a BBS, designed for BBS use.

Huh... I see. That's a lot more simple than I thought it would be. Why are they called doorgames (or is there even a specific reason)?

I'm not sure where the term doorgame originates but BBS games have been called "doors" since before I came on the scene.

I guess when you select an option on a BBS menu it is similar to going through a door.

RBBS-PC was one of, if not the first, to use the term "door". It's like
opening a door to another set of programs that the BBS can run. The
author of PCBoard was instrumental on pushing DOOR.SYS.

For RPG and space games, that would certainly be appropriate.
